The Postpartum Skincare Product I Use Every Day

Pregnancy can do some strange things to your skin, and postpartum can bring another round of abrupt changes. Hormone levels shift quickly after birth, particularly estrogen and progesterone, and those changes can affect oil production, hydration, sensitivity and the overall appearance of your skin. Add in less sleep, increased stress, not drinking enough water and spending most of your time focused on a newborn, and it makes sense that your skin may not look or feel quite like it did before pregnancy.

One of the things I noticed most about my postpartum skin was persistent dryness. My skin felt tight, rough or more sensitive than usual, and it simply looked dull and tired. When I started addressing my postpartum skin, I wanted to be mindful about using low tox or organic products and wanted to avoid overdoing things. I paid particular attention to moisture and supporting my skin barrier. Your skin barrier helps keep moisture in and protects your skin from outside irritants, so gentle cleansing and consistent moisturizing can make the most noticeable difference, and that was very true for me.

That is why I have kept Calm Your Pits Glow Serum in my daily skincare routine, even 3.5 years after having my baby.

There is also a personal reason I wanted to share this particular product. Calm Your Pits is run by a friend of mine, and I have had the opportunity to see how much she genuinely cares about natural skincare and the products she creates. Britt, the owner, is passionate about keeping things simple, using ingredients she feels good about and creating simple but wonderful products that people can incorporate into their everyday routines. That makes a difference to me when I recommend a product, because I know the person behind it and can personally attest to how seriously she takes natural care.

Why I love Glow Serum

The biggest reason I use the Glow Serum is moisture. Postpartum skin does not need to be attacked with a dozen different products every time it changes. If your skin is dry or feeling depleted, adding moisture back into your routine and giving your skin some consistency can be a much more practical approach.

The Glow Serum is made with natural, organic oils and essential oils, and it is vegan and cruelty-free. It is also made without parabens or phthalates. I like that the formula is straightforward and that I don't have to build an elaborate routine around it.

I use a few drops after washing and toning my face. Even though it’s called a serum, I don’t feel the need to add additional moisturizer on top, it’s moisturizing enough! It leaves my skin feeling soft, plump, and moisturized without feeling overly heavy, which is especially important to me in a product I am using every day.

As I get older, I also want something I can use consistently that keeps my skin moisturized, supports a healthy-looking complexion and helps with that dry, tired appearance that can become more noticeable when hormones and lack of sleep are working against you.

The Glow Serum fits that perfectly. It gives my skin extra nourishment and leaves it looking hydrated and glowy without making my routine too complicated.

As a side, note, Britt’s Glow Serum isn't the only product I use regularly. I also keep her Immunity Boost roller on hand, particularly during the colder months when everyone seems to be passing something around. I roll a bit on my wrists, the back of my neck and my feet if I’m around people who have been sick, am flying, or in general feeling a bit run down. I keep a roller at home and in my purse at all times. Bonus: It smells amazing!

If you’re visiting Britt’s shop, you might as well check out her magnesium lotion, too. Making it is a labor of love, but it’s a great addition to your nightly routine and helps you calm down and get better sleep. I rub some on my (and my daughter’s) feet almost every night. It’s moisturizing and nourishing for skin while also soothing for the brain and body.

My Basic Skincare Routine

I keep my skincare routine intentionally simple because I am much more consistent with a routine that takes a few minutes instead of one that feels like an hour long project. This wasn’t always the case… when I was newly postpartum and rebuilding my moisture barrier, I added in some additional products, but today I’ve narrowed down to just a few favorites.

  1. I cleanse my face with Eminence Stone Crop Oil Cleanser

  2. 2-3x a week I tone with Eminence Pineapple Tonique (I don’t do it more than that or it will dry out my skin). The other 4-5 days a week I spritz lightly with Eminence Stone Crop Hydrating Mist. For a more economic option, you can also use any organic aloe vera.

  3. Lastly, I apply 2-3 drops of Glow Serum. As I mentioned, I rarely use an additional moisturizer but you may need or want to.

  4. Every 1-2 weeks I’ll gently exfoliate and follow this same routine afterwards.

I do this routine morning and night and my skin has improved significantly since having my daughter and I no longer battle with intense dryness.

Just a note on cost for these products - I personally use high quality, organic skincare products because that’s what I feel best using and also because they nourish my skin well. I exclusively buy and use these products and they last a long time! I typically only have to buy skincare products 2-3x a year because a little goes a long way. That said, work with what you have and if you can’t invest in the cost of the products linked here, don’t stress!

For postpartum women dealing with dry or changing skin, I would start with the basics rather than immediately buying a cabinet full of products anyway. Keep your cleanser gentle, pay attention to moisture, and give your skin some time to adjust to the hormonal changes that come with pregnancy and postpartum.

For me, the Calm Your Pits Glow Serum has become the one product I use every day because it adds moisture, feels good on my skin, smells amazing and fits easily into a routine I can easily maintain. And because I know the woman behind the brand, I feel confident recommending it!
